Using the round robin calculator
The round robin calculator settles the UK bet of that name. A Round Robin is a wager on three selections in different races, made of 10 bets: 3 doubles, 1 treble and 3 up-and-down pairs. Each pair is two bets, one in each direction, which is why three pairs add six bets. A £1 Round Robin costs £10, or £20 each way.
- Choose Round Robin or Flag as the bet type.
- Type the stake and pick Per bet or Total.
- Switch on Each way if you backed each way, then set the place odds and places paid from your slip.
- Type each price (5/2, 3.5, +250 or evs) and mark it Won, Placed, Lost or Void.
Open See every bet to check each double, the treble and every up-and-down line on its own.
How an up-and-down bet settles
An up-and-down (also called single stakes about) is a conditional bet. £1 goes on selection A. If A returns money, up to the original £1 of that return goes on B as a new single, any to come; the rest is yours to keep. The same bet then runs the other way, from B to A.
So with A at 3/1 and B at 5/2, both winning: A returns £4, you keep £3 and £1 rides on B, which returns £3.50. That direction pays £6.50. If A's return is smaller than the stake, for example a 1/2 shot in a two-way dead heat paying 75p, only that 75p rides on. Bookmakers typically settle a non-runner at odds of 1.0, so the £1 stake comes back and rides on the other selection in full.
Here is a £1 Round Robin on 3/1, 5/1 and 4/1 when all three win:
| Bets | Number | Return |
|---|---|---|
| Doubles | 3 | £74.00 |
| Treble | 1 | £120.00 |
| Up-and-downs | 6 | £54.00 |
| Total | 10 | £248.00 |
That is £248 back for £10 staked.
Each way up-and-downs
Each way, every up-and-down becomes a win part and a place part, and the money coming back from A has to fund both parts of the bet on B. Our calculator uses win precedence: the returns go to the win part first and only what is left goes to the place part. The other method in use is equally divided, which splits the money evenly between the two.
An example at 1/5 odds: A at 2/1 only places and returns £1.40 on a £1 each way bet. Under win precedence £1 goes on B to win and 40p each way to place; B wins at 3/1, so that direction returns £4.64. Split equally (70p and 70p) it would return £3.92. Bookmakers' rules differ here, so check your bookmaker's terms if the figures matter. Our each way calculator explains the place terms themselves.
The Flag: a Yankee with up-and-downs
Switch the bet type to Flag for four selections. A Flag is 23 bets: the 11 bets of a Yankee (6 doubles, 4 trebles and a four-fold) plus 6 up-and-down pairs, one for every pair of selections. A £1 Flag costs £23, or £46 each way. Without the up-and-downs, a Round Robin's multiples are simply a Trixie.
Round robin bets in US sports betting
In US sportsbooks a round robin means something else: a list of picks turned into every smaller parlay of a chosen size, such as all the two-team parlays from four teams. There are no up-and-down bets in it. This calculator settles the UK Round Robin and Flag described above, so use a parlay calculator for the US bet.
